2020 02 10 BWS News Round-up

UCAS applications for 2020 entry
The deadline for university applications fell in late January. This year 127 applications have been submitted through BWS to a total of 70 different institutions. 28 boys applied to Cambridge and Oxford, 18 were interviewed and 10 boys now hold offers.

Applications for Year 12 September 2020
There was a final total of 301 applications by the deadline date, of which 120 are from BWS (from a year group of 124) and 181 from 56 other schools. Of these 97 are from girls, and this is despite the entry grades being increased significantly this year. We are likely to need additional staff in Maths, Biology, Physics and probably Economics/Business, though this is also being driven by the continued expansion lower down the school too.

Exam results
The validated A level results emerged in the national and local media last week. BWS was comfortably the best state school in the county on the basis of both %AAB grades and also the progress measure, though what the latter means and how it is calculated escapes me…! We also topped the GCSE tables this year; while this is very nice to see I retain a healthy scepticism about the value of such data.
